The sky was blue but the disease was true and despite this, there was a celebration. The 2020 International Literacy day was welcomed with open arms as we held a creative writing competition for young women. The event which took place on the 8th of September, 2020 saw the dense creativity of the female gender. Participants between the ages of 15-25 were required to submit a letter, essay, poem, screenplay, or monologue of between 300-500 words, that shows a connection between COVID-19, the culture of silence, and positive social change around the issue of sexual and gender-based violence. Their entries were reviewed and the winners were announced and awarded cash prizes and free self-defense classes, on International Literacy Day.

In line with our cause, this event was held to encourage more women to shift the focus from themselves, tell stories that can inspire and help others heal, change the narrative and drive social change because "social change they say comes from the passion of individuals"
